Enjoy a short (or long) break in Louth next winter because…
…In November and December, Donna Nook, on the north-eastern coast of Lincolnshire and a short drive from Lourth, is a seal watchers' paradise. It boasts one of the largest and most accessible breeding colonies of Grey Seals in the UK. An encounter with a seal at Donna Nook is almost guaranteed because this is effectively a seal maternity hospital.
The Lincoln Christmas Market in December, is an event not to be missed. More a Christmas experience than anything else, a trip to Lincoln is guaranteed to melt the heart of even the most avowed anti-shopper!
Imagine a cobbled square overlooked by a floodlit 12th Century cathedral, a Norman Castle and black and white timber-framed buildings. Brightly coloured stalls decorated with lights, selling every conceivable Christmas gift and the traders in Victorian costume. The smell of chestnuts roasting, mince pies and a particularly potent hot mulled wine. The delicate sound of hand bell ringers or local choirs singing carols by lantern light, street theatre and beautiful services in the majestic Cathedral. These are just some of the reasons people flock to Lincoln at this special time of the year.
Lincoln has 250,000 visitors so why not stay in Louth at our holiday home, just 35 minutes drive from Lincoln? Or leave the car and visit by bus!
Louth holds its one day Christmas Market in December, which is well worth visiting. Around 100 stalls are set up and the usual hot toddys and Father Christmas are all sure to make this a roaring success. Don't expect the vast crowds of the city market, but visitors are sure to receive a welcome which will surpass its city neighbour. (A few minutes walk from your holiday home.)
Just across the road from your holiday home, John Taylors run their ever-popular auctions at the Old Wool Mart. They have an auction in November of furniture, ceramics & glass, clocks & barometers, collectables, toys, silver, jewellery, pictures & books. Also, in December, they are holding a specialist auction of silver and jewellery.
There are also Christmas craft markets in Alford, a short drive from Louth, in November and December.
